Terms of Service
Effective September 9, 2026
These are the ground rules for using RoomParent. They are written to be read, not skimmed, so we kept them short. By creating an account or using a shared link you agree to them.
What RoomParent is
RoomParent (roomparent.dev) is a free tool that helps room parents, teachers, and families organize classroom logistics: announcements, volunteer sign-ups, celebrations, wishlists, and a voluntary class fund. It started as a pilot with classrooms at Arroyo Elementary and is open to any classroom whose room parent sets it up.
RoomParent is independent. It is not operated by or affiliated with your school, your district, or the PTA, and it is not a substitute for official school communication. Teachers and the principal communicate through your school's own channels.
RoomParent never shows ads on class pages and never sells your data. We use Google Analytics 4, with IP anonymization on and Google signals and ad personalization turned off, to count visits and feature usage, and we use no third-party ad pixels on this site. The Privacy Policy has the details.
Who can use it
- You must be at least 18 and a parent, guardian, room parent, teacher, or school staff member connected to a classroom.
- Children may not create accounts or use the site.
- You are responsible for keeping your sign-in secure and for everything posted from your account.
- Join only the classroom you actually belong to. Room parents may remove anyone who does not.
Community rules
RoomParent exists to make a classroom feel welcoming. When you post or share here you agree to:
- Keep it about logistics. Announcements, sign-ups, celebrations, and supplies. Academic, behavioral, medical, social, or emotional information about any student other than your own child does not belong here, ever.
- Respect the confidentiality you agreed to as a school volunteer. What you see about other families stays in the classroom.
- Include everyone. No content that singles out a child or family, and nothing that shames anyone for volunteering less or giving less. Every child goes on the class card regardless of contributions.
- Follow your school's celebration guidelines, including any food restrictions and teacher approval for class celebrations.
- No harassment, hate, spam, fundraising for outside causes, commercial solicitation, or unlawful content.
- Only share information you have the right to share. Do not add a student to a class list or the directory without a parent's permission.
Room parents and teachers can edit or remove content in their classroom. We can remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules, and we will always err on the side of protecting kids.
Donations and the class fund
- Donations are always voluntary. No child's participation in any activity depends on whether their family gives.
- Payments are processed by Stripe under its own terms. RoomParent does not store card details.
- Donations go to the classroom fund managed by that classroom's room parent and teacher for supplies, celebrations, and teacher gifts. RoomParent takes no cut and charges no fees to families.
- Donations are not tax-deductible unless your classroom tells you otherwise, and RoomParent is not a charity.
- Because funds are passed along to the classroom, donations are generally non-refundable. If something went wrong with a payment, email us within 14 days and we will do our best to sort it out.
Volunteer sign-ups
Claiming a slot is a good-faith commitment, not a contract. Plans change; if they do, release your spot so someone else can take it. Room parents may adjust slots and waitlists as needed. Any volunteering at school is still subject to the school's own volunteer requirements, which are handled by the school, not by us.
Wishlists and outside links
Wishlist items link to Amazon and other sites we do not control. Purchases you make there are between you and that retailer. We may use affiliate links, which cost you nothing.
Your content
You own what you post. You give RoomParent a limited license to store and display it to the families in your classroom so the service can work. You confirm that you have the right to post it and that it follows these terms.
Privacy
How we handle your information is described in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.
Availability and changes
RoomParent is a young product. Features may change, and the service may be paused or ended, including at the close of a school year. We will give reasonable notice when we can and will provide a way to export or delete your classroom's data. We may update these terms; the date at the top tells you when. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
Disclaimers and liability
RoomParent is provided free and "as is." We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but we do not guarantee that it will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that content posted by other users is accurate. Allergy notes and similar details are entered by families and room parents and must always be confirmed with the parent before relying on them.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, RoomParent and the people who build it are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us, which is zero. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
Ending your account
You can stop using RoomParent at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing hello@roomparent.dev. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms or put children or families at risk.
Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. If we have a disagreement, we will try to resolve it by talking first. Questions or concerns: hello@roomparent.dev.
